The Marcus String Orchestra grew out of a junior symphony orchestra which underwent a transformation into an ensemble that specialises in playing string repertoire suited to players who are generally of primary school age.  This is an excellent introduction to ensemble playing with an intensive, hands-on approach by the specialist tutors.  Many young string players forge friendships that endure for the years they attend State Music Camp and are often surprised that new friends appear at other musical activities during the year around Adelaide.

Betty Marcus A.M. 1927 - 1998

The South Australian Music Camp Association would like to pay tribute to the late Betty Marcus who for many years was its Administrator and contributed much to its development and success from its inception.
In memory of Betty the string orchestra at State Music Camp is now named after her.
