The Hawkes Wind Ensemble (formerly Roberts) is a relatively new addition to music camp
in South Australia and has recognised a growing need for high level concert band
experience for players of primary school age. This ensemble has grown in
leaps and bounds since it was introduced to music camp in it's present format in
1995. This year it has been named after Josie Hawkes who has contributed
much time and effort as Music Camps Administrator. Josie, who is a leading
Bassoonist, has been and still is a strong supporter of Music Camp and of Music
in general. Josie is one of those people who has a real heart and feeling for
music. She inspires both her colleagues and music students alike.
The Hawkes Wind Ensemble is designed for young instrumentalists who
have been playing an instrument for a minimum of 18 months. The ensemble
provides an opportunity to enjoy the experience of large ensemble playing when
the player has not yet developed an advanced technique (approximately Grade
2 AMEB or equivalent).
