The symphonic wind ensemble, or concert band as it can also be known, was included in the stable of music camp ensembles during the 1980's as the growing number of wind and brass players could not be accommodated in the orchestras at camp. This type of ensemble had achieved prominence in the military, most notably in the USA and the UK. The symphonic wind ensemble first appeared at National Music Camp in 1981 under the baton of George Logie-Smith and following a successful debut with young wind players, soon became a significant part of our State Music Camp. The Concert Band has undergone several different name changes over
the years.
